ABOUT US
They were Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder, Rev. Henry Wesley, Rev. Fuller, Mr. Hawkins, Mrs. Ella Cannon, Mrs. Minnie Suber, Mrs. Katie Bridges Vaughn, Mr. George Rogers, Mrs. Rosa Lee Humphries and Mr. Alonzo Humphries, who signed the mortgage for the first church. As this little band increased in number and waxed stronger in favor with God, they concentrated on an effort to build a Baptist Church in Grahamtown. Friends of the cause began to rally around them and lend their assistance.

In July 1924, under the pastorate of Rev. A.M. Means, of Boiling Springs, S.C., the first church building was completed. Rev. Jackson named it Oak Grove Baptist Church. In 1943, the church was torn down and immediately rebuilt. Because of an acute shortage of building materials caused by World War II, this new church was of inferior quality and was not better than the building torn down. Consequently, it was of short duration.
HISTORY
Early in 1820, perhaps a little before then, when the section of Forest City, now known as Grahamtown, was in its infancy, a few pious souls, in a effort to satisfy their spiritual hunger, formed a small prayer band. Since they had no designated place to worship, such as a church building, they had to meet in different homes or other places that they could secure. One of their meeting places was in a little building off Main Street in Forest City, N.C. Another meeting place was in a store building belonging to Mr. George Rogers. Included among these "God Fearing" pioneers were a few humble leaders.
